Chemical Oxidation

In-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) offers an efficient and effective way to eliminate organic contaminants in both saturated and unsaturated environments. The Geo-Cleanse® Process, which patents both the methodology and injection equipment, can be utilized to distribute several different oxidants to the subsurface.

The most frequently used oxidants for ISCO are:

  • Fenton’s Reagent
  • Permanganate
  • Persulfate
  • Ozone

GCI specializes in the use of Fenton’s reagent for our treatment programs. Seventy-five percent (75%) of all GCI’s treatment programs utilize Fenton’s reagent. The remaining treatment programs use either sodium or potassium permanganate. GCI is currently experimenting with sodium persulfate on a bench-scale level and is designing methods to apply sodium persulfate for field treatment programs.

GCI maintains an updated library of references including reports, abstracts, and conference proceedings on a variety of ISCO related topics to keep up-to-date on the chemical oxidation industry.
